Founder and CEO
Janet is a mechanical engineer and a metallurgist with many personal successes related to design and development of novel devices. She has worked for Guidant, Cordis/J&J, and several start-up companies. All start-ups were successfully acquired including three successful start-ups acquired for their stent and delivery system products. She has experience directly with or in the management of design, manufacturing operations, quality, clinical, and regulatory affairs. Janet holds numerous patents and has contributed to the successful launch of many of Burpee MedSystems customers' products. Her approach in business is that of honesty and full transparency. Prior to starting Burpee MedSystems, she worked for IsoStent, Inc., NDC, Inc., Advanced Surgical and Northrop. She received both her Mechanical Engineering degree and Masters in Materials Science degree from the University of Virginia.
Founder and President
Steve is a chemical engineer with 30 years experience in medical devices and aerospace materials. After 10 years in aerospace R&D, Steve left to pursue a graduate degree and then resumed work in processing and manufacturing of vascular devices. Steve joined Isostent as Principal Scientist where he developed brachytherapy (radiation emitting) stents until the company was acquired by Cordis Corporation. Shortly thereafter, he and wife Janet formed Burpee MedSystems to provide engineering development to the stent industry. Within two years, Burpee MedSystems began small-scale manufacturing of next generation stents using self-financed equipment in a garage in Long Branch, NJ. Over the last 14 years, Burpee MedSystems has been the developer and first manufacturer of a multitude of significant vascular devices. Steve has lead or managed the process development underlying Burpee MedSystems manufacturing technology. More recently, Steve manages the company's efforts in manufacturing technology and new business development. He holds degrees in Chemical Engineering from Rice and Princeton.
Vice President of Engineering
Andrew has been with Burpee MedSystems since 2006. As Vice President of Engineering, he is in charge of Research and Development, Process and Prototyping Engineering. Using and perfecting Burpee MedSystems integrated design approach, he and his team have brought numerous successes to customers with rapid timelines and unique design and manufacturing solutions. Andrew leads all efforts in enhancing catheter based solutions in the ever growing endovascular market. He has been instrumental in assisting Burpee MedSystems customers gain regulatory approvals. Andrew holds degrees in Mechanical Engineering (B.S. and M.S.) from the University of Virginia.
Vice President of Quality
Don has worked for Burpee MedSystems since 2005. He is a Mechanical Engineer with 18 years’ experience in quality assurance. He has worked in a variety of industries over his 30+ year career including medical device manufacturing, semiconductor equipment, plastic extrusion, chemical process equipment fabrication and residential construction. As VP of Quality, Don is responsible for Quality Assurance policies, activities, and resources to ensure Burpee MedSystems meets or exceeds customer expectations and complies with FDA and other regulatory authorities. Don's diverse background is the foundation for his broad based approach to quality and risk solutions. Don has a BSME from New Jersey Institute of Technology.
Vice President of Operations
Chris has worked for Burpee MedSystems since 2008. He has over 15 years experience in supply chain and manufacturing management, focused in the medical device and pharmaceutical industries. Currently as the VP of Operations, Chris is responsible for the supply chain management, manufacturing operations, and facility management. For the first 4 years after graduation Chris served in the United States Army as an Infantry officer stationed with 10th Mountain Division (LI). Prior to joining Burpee MedSystems, Chris worked for Alere™ (Inverness Medical Innovations) and Stryker ®. Chris earned his Mechanical Engineering degree from Gannon University.
